Thirty Seconds to a Polite, Calm, Well-Behaved Puppy.30 seconds?Yes, 30 seconds. Bear with me for a moment, and I'll explain. :)Some people think that obedience training is the key to making a puppy well-behaved. They hope that by taking their puppy to a one-hour obedience class every week.... and maybe spending another hour each night practicing the commands, their puppy will be well-behaved.But the truth is that very little obedience training needs to be done with a puppy to get him to be well-behaved.That's right. Very little obedience training.Keep in mind that I've instructed obedience classes for over 35 years, so I certainly wouldn't say that unless it was true. The truth is that what a puppy needs most is to be RAISED the right way. Raising a puppy the right way includes some obedience training, yes. But teaching obedience commands like "Sit" or "Stay" only influences about 20% of the way your puppy ends up behaving. On the other hand, how you live with the puppy around the house every single day influences 80% or more of his behavior. And that's where the 30 seconds to a calm, polite, well-behaved puppy comes in!Respect Training for Puppies: 30 Seconds to a Calm, Polite, Well-Behaved Puppy is a BALANCED training method that includes positive reinforcement for good behavior, plus corrections for unwanted behavior.I will show you which behaviors you should expect your puppy to do – and how to teach those behaviors and make sure that he does them.... every time.I'll show you which behaviors you should stop your puppy from doing – and how to stop him.Everything your puppy needs to know to be a top-notch canine citizen is included!Summary30 SECONDSRespect Training shows you how to be a reliable, trusted leader so your pup can relax and be a secure, confident follower. Then 30-second teachable moments are all you need for training. Your pup will enjoy it!CALMWith Respect Training your pup will pay attention to you and follow your directions. All the time. He’ll be relaxed and quiet, without pitching a fit or racing around the house if he sees or hears something. He’ll wait for you (his Respected Leader) to handle everyday events, and coexist peacefully with other pets.POLITERespect Training will teach your pup to always look to you for guidance. He’ll stop barking when told, accept house guests if you welcome them, and keep four feet on the floor without jumping on people. A polite pup sits, walks on a loose leash, waits for your permission before going through doors and gates, and goes to his bed when told. Obedience becomes a happy game that never ends. Respect Training shows you how to establish routines and patterns so your pup always knows what behaviors are expected. When your pup respects your leadership he’s happy to behave.WELL-BEHAVEDHe will stop making his own unacceptable decisions about what is OK and what isn’t. No more wild racing around, nuisance barking, jumping on people, peeing behind the couch, pulling on the leash, or chewing up your stuff. When you follow my Respect Training program, your puppy will live a happy, low-stress life as the well-behaved, well-trained pup of your dreams. Exactly the kind of dog we all want!

No kidding, this works!!! This book is all you need to have a wonderful home life with your new pup!!! I can't believe the change we had in just a few days! I rarely write reviews but let me tell you this story...So we got a new pup. I have 2 little boys, ages 8 & 9. The new puppy was a rescue pup, half Blue Heeler, and half mutt. She was cute, and very high energy, and too young to be taken from her mom at only 5 weeks. The first week went fine. But by the second week though, despite giving her lots of exercise, stimulation and love we were all starting to tear our hair out. She wined incessantly if put in her crate, didn't let us sleep at night, chewed everything, peed everywhere, barked crazily and chased the cat, jumped and nipped and chased the heels of my kids, distressing one of them greatly. But most alarmingly she liked to roughhouse, very easily getting extremely wound up to the point where she was a snarling snapping crazed little dog. A friend warned me that the pup was losing control, and to be careful or she could bite a child a one day. The pup was hyper, and a total handful. My husband and I started to become concerned for the kids. I could see this was not going to end well. Another family gets a puppy, puppy wears everyone out and even possibly creates a danger. Puppy ends up in shelter, family never gets to enjoy having a dog again. The irony was I was already watching dog training videos but it was all about how to get your dog to sit, lay down etc, and you had to pay everything in treats. We were getting there with toilet training, but life with this wound-up dog was not fun!So concerned, one night I scoured Amazon for the right book. This one spoke to me as it was about lifestyle, not just about obedience tricks. I speed read as much as I could very quickly and started implementing right away. In just ONE day, our household was peaceful again. In a couple of days the pup's behavior had settled tremendously and we were enjoying the pup again. Then I had a business meeting with a client outside and I had to take the pup. The client was an elderly lady, a recent widow, still very much in grieving, she was very unhappy, and she did not like dogs. But puppy behaved so absolutely perfectly that very soon this widow was smiling at the puppy. The widow reached down to scratch puppy's head. Pup responded gently, not getting wound up. The widow started smiling through the meeting, cheered by the presence of the pup (who was lying at my feet quietly the whole time). Then the widow started commenting on the dog. "Wow, that is a mellow puppy! I've never seen a pup like that. She's so good!" The meeting ended with this widow now smiling and greatly cheered, somewhat in love with the puppy. She even offered to babysit the pup should I ever need it and invited us both to come back more often. "I don't usually like dogs, but that one is special!" she exclaimed.Puppy is only 7-8 weeks old right now, too young apparently to "be" trained. But this method is so balanced, that she quickly got the hang of what was expected of her. Using the principles of the book I changed the dynamic of our relationship right away. I don't have to carry a "bait bag" constantly, and my pup is not getting fat from non-stop positive reinforcement treats. I didn't have to remove every item from the floor or change our life. Puppy does get tons of love and stimulation, and I can take her everywhere as she behaves well now. Just the principles of the book are enough to get you off and running. I put my own take on things, I do use time outs, but the principles of this book empowered me to set the stage and this has gotten us off to a solid and happy start.Right now puppy is laying down in her bed, not restrained, in the living room. Our very hissy adult cat is strutting around unharrassed (puppy would previously bark and chase her around the sofa) and a small playful kitten is chasing a ball around right in front of her. Puppy sits nicely and watches it all. Quite honestly, I am amazed at her restraint. Kitten (who we are fostering temporarily) can walk up to the dog, and sniff her without being chased! It is truly amazing! But best of all, I love this dog even more now. She is smart & fun, a real pleasure, and I am loving working with her. She does not know all her obedience tricks yet, this is not a done deal yet. But we have a great foundation set for future training. Puppy does respect me, and every being in our household. She behaves well and respects her new home. We are all happier and enjoying having this delightful dog and look forward to many years of happiness with our new family member. This author has a ton of great resources and a fantastic website. She is now my go-to resource. I am just about to start reading her next book "11 Things You Must Do Right To Keep Your Dog Healthy & Happy".
